Americans in Paris!
Here it is -- in less than six hours I'll be at the airport with John Palatinus, the two of us getting comfortable in Business Class and on the first leg of our trip to Gay Paree!
On the evening of January 18, John and I will be at the Galerie Au Bonheur du Jour for the opening reception for John's new exhibit of his photographs. Organized with the tireless Bernd, this show will feature 38 (!) prints of John's work. That's twenty more prints than we had at the first exhibit at Rick Castro's Antebellum Gallery last February -- material just keeps surfacing that I am able to rehabilitate for viewing!
I'm very excited about this show -- we have added some really wonderful pieces. I hope that any readers I have in the Paris area will drop by the evening of January 18 and say "Hi!" to John and myself -- I'll be the shaved-headed guy in the maroon shirt. If you can't make it then, the exhibit will be up through February 12. Mme. Canet's gallery looks fascinating and we are really happy to have John's photographs showcased at Au Bonheur du Jour! You can find a video tour on YouTube by clicking here. I only wish I spoke French!
The January issue of "Tetu" has a four-page article on John -- thanks to the gents there for their enthusiasm over John's life and photographs.
This is my first trip to Paris! I'm going to have several days to see the sights in between events that Bernd has organized to promote the exhibit. John has been to Paris often over the past 55 years and I'm sure he'll steer me right in catching the off-the-beaten-path places to see. Fingers crossed for some decent weather!
I'll be back on the 25th, hopefully with some fun photos from the opening night. Maybe even some video -- my best buddy Bill gave me a wonderful new camera for Christmas and I hope I can figure out the basics on the long flight to come. For now, I'll leave you with this shot I took Wednesday of John signing the backs of the prints we are bringing over the pond with us....
