Kris Catalogs 1 through 4

Sorry for the rough images, but these are so rare I thought them worth showcasing. Here are the first four mail-order catalogs published by Kris Studio of Chicago. The man behind the camera for Kris was Chuck Renslow, who would later found the annual International Mr. Leather contest and the Leather Archives and Museum. The lack of prices on the cover makes me 99.44% certain that these were available by mail-order only, probably advertised in the pages of Kris' newsstand magazine "Mars." The jumbo, 68-page "Kris 7" appears every now and then on eBay (I have one myself, and it cost me dearly), but this is the first time I have seen any of the earlier editions. The eBay dealer who recently offered these sold them as a set, with the final auction price reaching $403.00.

Chuck Renslow's Kris Studio came into its own in the early 60s, presenting a rugged kind of guy that was a major contrast to the twinkie-type that was taking over the fading physique era. Chuck often found his models at the gym or the bar that he owned with his life partner, Dom Orejudos (aka the artist Etienne).

Naked men in their sox and sneaks (or better, boots) are a major turn-on for me. These three shots of hunky Johnny Seaton are old favorites of mine!

And about ten years later, here's a shot of Ed by Kris Studio's Chuck Renslow out of Chicago. Kris Catalog 7 listed two sets of the more mature Ed for sale, but this is the only pose I've come across from either of those two sessions. I just found this decent-quality scan for the first time in a file of photos sent to me ages ago by an internet buddy -- thanks, Thad!
